What is the metal clamp for in the pool table starter kit?
I purchased the following starter kit for my pool table. What is the metal clamp for? Also, there is a long piece of metal with a ball point on the end and a piece of rounded black plastic. Can you tell me what these are for?

The clamp is for holding the tip in place after gluing it on so the glue can set properly. It comes in two pieces, the top of the long piece secures the tip while the sides of it align itself with the shaft. Then you're supposed to slide the metal triangle over it to keep it in place. However, these tend to cause damage to the shaft as the metal will tend to dig in to the wood.
The rounded black plastic with the sandpaper is used to shape the tip and make it round after initially putting it on. This actually works well and is faster than the scuffers which should be used only after the tip is shaped.
